As I was dashing through My Park before work, I was lucky enough to encounter sweet Giselle and her owner. She is 10 years old and in a past life she was a breeder dog for a seeing eye dog organization. I'm assuming that means she is intelligent with a steady disposition.
I immediately noticed the swelling over the dog's right eye and inquired as to the cause. Turns out it is a tumor behind the eye, and it is malignant. It's not the first time dear Giselle has battled cancer, but it sounds like it will be the last. I didn't ask how long the vet thought the sweet pup might live, but she seemed to be doing well so far. She was quite happy to have me pet her and I regret that I wasn't able to spend more time with the two of them.
Having shared my home with German Shepherd Dogs for the last 20 years I have rather a soft spot for the breed. Such a lovely capture and a sad story but I'm sure she has given many some very happy memories and independence to those who received her puppies as guide or service dogs! She appears to be enjoying her retirement.
