Angels Flight by pasadenarose

Angels Flight

In my attempt to maintain a shot a day, I did a quick drive-by shooting downtown. No laws were broken and no one was injured. ;-)

I didn't even notice the guy and his dog until I cropped a fire hydrant on the right side. Amazing what we miss even when it's right under our nose.
I'm wondering if I should have gone B&W to create a more vintage look. Maybe I'll give it a try and post it in my other album if I like the results.

Here is a brief history of Angels Flight, copied from the L.A. Conservancy website:

Angels Flight is one of Los Angeles' most enduring landmarks. Originally constructed in 1901, it was designed to carry passengers up and down the steep incline between downtown and Bunker Hill, then a fashionable residential district. Billed as the "shortest railroad in the world," Angels Flight is actually a funicular - its two cars, Olivet and Sinai, work in tandem and are connected to the same cable.

In 1969 Angels Flight was dismantled by the city to make way for the redevelopment of Bunker Hill. The funicular remained in storage for over two decades until a group of concerned citizens finally convinced the city that it should be rebuilt. In 1996, the restoration and re-installation was complete, albeit at a new location a half-block south of the original.
lovely story, I think if you cropped out the traffic lights but kept in the old fashioned lamp to the left it would make a great b/w or sepia shot.

I agree with Bernadette. Also, I wish that the walker and dog weren't obscured. So glad that no one was hurt with your drive by shooting;-).

Love the contrast between the 'Angel's flight' and the modern architecture, nicely captured. I agree to your point about the man walkig the dog, we often don't see the things the camera does until looking at th result later

Mad skills to get such a good shot in a drive by!

Very nice shot, though probably cropping out the light and dog walker is a good idea. Too bad they weren't in the clear, they might have worked into the picture all right. I like the color, though it would most likely work very well in b&w. that's what I love about the digital age, it only costs some time to make changes, so why not?

love the way the dog is pretty much in view, while the man has almost disappeared behind the light pole. . .

Brilliant catch of the man and dog. No doubt you spent long hours planning this :-) Like it a lot
