The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, commonly known as Inner Temple, is one of the four Inns of Court in London. To practise as a barrister in England and Wales, you have to belong to one of these Inns. The Inner Temple is located in the wider Temple area of London, near the Royal Courts of Justice, and within the City of London. The area was named after the Knights Templar, who owned the land in the 14th century and leased it to the original inhabitants. The Inner Temple dates from the latter decades of the 14th century, although the exact date is unknown. This set of buildings dates from the 18th century (as far as I can tell, although am happy to be corrected!)
I was struck whilst walking through the area today of the similarity between this and a Peabody Housing Association estate just a mile or so away. See https://365project.org/peadar/extras/2019-05-23
Many thanks for your comments - they are appreciated and I always respond individually to direct questions.
Lovely shot of those buildings - I suspect they may be older than the 18th Century - that style of buildings is seen in Lincoln's Inn and the College of Arms, both of which date from older, although were altered later
Super history and comparison. I love this bit of London. Used to pause and look whenever we took at wander around Hatton Garden. Love to watch those jewellers at work!
