Woody

...the woodpecker!

We are very lucky to have these guys visiting fairly frequently but they are quite nervous so I am finding it difficult to get a brilliant shot. But I'm going to keep trying...

A very nice visit. Sometimes there are times when even shy animals like to pose.

Wonderful shot, in winter time when food is scarce they sometimes visit my garden

outstanding Peter. Birds are rather difficult to capture - they move too quickly, and you caught it here perfectly

Beautifully composed and I love the flash of red. So hard to get a good shot of these birds.

You've got me singing that cartoon tune now from the Woody Woodpecker show.......what a lovely fella to have come calling

I know exactly what you mean as I have them visiting me but they are very nervous Fav for this lovely shot

@ingajohansson Inga, thank you. You are correct, of course, but I'm not quite sure where this is going wrong. The camera tells me the shot is in focus; I had thought that at the extreme of the lens zoom (300mm) with an APS sensor that I just cannot expect a better shot than this. So, this time I tried c. 200mm zoom but didn't see any noticeable improvement in clarity. Sigh...

A neatly composed shot - you did well to get a shot of a woodpecker, they are such timid birds. It's often hard to spot them never mind getting a shot!

Wow. I'm very envious. The one here is easily spooked. You've got a cracking capture here. Fav.
