I was ambling around my local village when I saw a tiny sign for "Commonwealth War Graves" which I had not seen previously. It led to an overgrown graveyard, seperate from but clearly part of the local Parish Church demise, in a quiet backwater of the village. Here I found this one headstone for Aircraftsman 1st Class Cyril Bernard Dearsley, Royal Air Force Reserve, who had died at the age of 20 in 1947. I cannot find any further details about him online, so his story remains a mystery to us.
There is one major news item archived, relating to his father, a Royal Navy Captain, who went missing in action in the Mediterranean in 1943. Although already married with 3 children (including Cyril), he had, shortly before his death, entered into a bigamous marriage with a Norwegian girl he had met whilst stationed in Scotland in 1942. The two branches of his family did not know about this until 2013 when some surviving members met for the first time in Croydon.
Sad about the son, so young.
Wonder if the father went missing in action or ..............
