Another visitor...

I came across another garden visitor today - this guy was around 10cm (4") and did give me a bit of a surprise as I was weeding a flower bed!

I have never seen one like this before, so I have consulted the online oracle and can tell you this is Limax Maximus, also known as the great grey slug or leopard slug (for obvious reasons). It is one of the largest slugs we have in the UK and apparently can grow to 20cm (8") - eeek!
Boo
They are good for the garden, aparntly they eat the eggs that the Spanish Brown Slug lays...keep them they are great

A great capture of this monster! It is really interesting to see one so close up - can even see the eyes at the end of those stalks.

Huge slimy thing, great capture though!

He seems to be a match for your local Lucanus Cervus of a couple of days back ;).

Nice capture; I definitely prefer a photo to meeting him in person. :)

Crikey 8 inches. Not keen on slugs but you have captured its good side I am sure

We have a pair of hedgehogs in our garden that keep the slug and snail population down.

I'm not so keen on the houseless ones. But it has a striking pattern.

Nice close up. I like the trail it leaves.

He looks like a tiger slug (perhaps ). Probably voracious too.

@fr1da Frida, I think they are called Tiger Slugs in some countries and/or are closely related.
