Hoping for a robin, as ever, I captured this starling on our bird feeder. His mixed livery of dun brown plain head and speckled heart-adorned breast made me curious.
I found that he is a juvenile starling moulting to his first winter plumage and will then be called a first winter starling.
This is beautiful. Fav! I know what you mean about trying to photograph a robin - I either never have my camera with me or one flies off just as I'm ready. then the other day, I managed it 3 times!
Lovely markings. I was hoping for a robin or a wren yesterday, when we went for a short bush walk. I saw several, but they were too quick and too far away. 😀
We had a wren's nest on the back wall one year but I couldn't capture anything. I would not want to be a true fan of bird photography as I think it would make me depressed!
starlings are a bit of poor relations in the bird world, bit i think they have a genuine beauty when the light catches them.
Lots of detail in this shot haze
That was a success!!
Beryl, you can have some of ours - they snaffle all the bird feed.
The starlings at our bird feeder sometimes have 'dogfights' in mid air - now that would be a sight to capture!
