Jeanette & Diana (ETSOOI)

Two new master's degree graduates. I recruited Jeanette to our graduate program in my last year. I retired before she would have been in my math-econ class a year ago, but I have been fortunate to get to know her, particularly as she recently decided to continue her Ph.D. studies in a department with more consistent and reliable course-scheduling and assistantship-funding. (Yes, this is yet another example — at the "personal level" — of the predictable [economic] consequences of a state legislature that still doesn't have a FY2016 state budget.)

Diana, on the other hand, I have known since she was in my intro econ class for non-majors four-plus years ago. At the time she was a transfer sophomore majoring in something-else. She changed her major, had the misfortune of having me for another class and yet still stuck it out, even serving as a group-study leader for one of my classes and then a tutor in a subsequent semester. It was a privilege to get to know Diana as well as I did and it was fun to meet her parents after commencement, but it was bittersweet to say farewell to her. But it's time. It's time for her to move on to her next adventure — in the real world — and get a real job!

Although these young women have different goals, they've become good friends (apparently getting mani-pedis together before today's ceremony) and the smiles are the same. Best wishes to them both!

Photo notes.
» Spent a *lot* of time getting rid of some background "noise." Can you find the ETSOOI spot?
» I don't think this photo is sharply focused, but focusing should not have been an issue with the P&S. Perhaps I've dropped it too many times?
