I've been unable to row this beautiful shell for a couple of years because a custom part broke. Replacement parts are not available and I do not have machine shop equipment to fabricate replacements, so I've been working my way toward a “hack” with available parts.
I've removed two of the foot stretcher support tracks, which I will have to raise up a little with thin slats of material. Here are the two places I've taken off the original parts (foreground and background) and found this white, chalky residue … whatever it is. Sand. Shellac. Sand. Shellac.
