Late lunch by rhoing

Late lunch

Not many frames today. Fixed a table and worked on a squeaky guest room door. After a morning of work, I met an interesting friend for a late lunch…and a flight of beers.

I have “known” Jon since Labor Day, 2004, at least by email. However, I met him face-to-face for the first time in June, 2022. (There will be a photo when I get to filling in June!) He’s my Excel guru when I get stuck. I found him on Labor Day, 2004 when I was having spreadsheet problems and Google wasn’t particularly helpful — you know, when you get 20,000 “hits” on your search parameters?

Discouraged, I went back to start a new search and for one of the few times I ever used this feature, I tapped the [ I feel lucky ] button. The link I got was for this particular Microsoft Excel MVP.

He helped me then, and we have corresponded by email many, many times over the years. I have learned a great deal from him about Excel and spreadsheets (and problem-solving, too, as he is an engineer by training: Ph.D. from MIT†). Within the last few years, I learned that he did not live far from my daughters in Massachusetts and that he, too, enjoys good, craft beers. (And, as an aside, he lives in an area I would describe as East Coast craft beer heaven. So many good breweries in Massachusetts!)

In June we met for the first time at Greater Good. (We chatted so long, I was a tad late getting “home” for dinner.) Today, however, we met here, at Bay State Brewery & Tap Room.

What a great story! A similar odd story…my cousin recently passed and I learned something at her funeral. You see, her hubby had been mine first and my dad ended up setting these two up for a date. Turns out, they were both mathematically gifted and discussed quadratic equations over dinner!

@danette Okay, now you have to spill a bit more. Did Dad set them up while you & he weren't "un-together"? Inquiring minds want to know!! 😄

What an amazing story! I don't drink beer, but I'd join you for coffee if you ever come South! :- )

@thewatersphotos I have been “here” 11+ years and have travelled a fair bit during that time. Nevertheless, I have yet to meet another 365’er face-to-face. Perhaps one of these days! I can always go for a great cup of coffee, too!
