Dinner in Bozeman

And possibly a new dinner-out strategy?

When we have difficulty deciding what to order, we usually ask the server for suggestions or recommendations. “Elsa” said she always gets the Alaskan Halibut Cake (appetizer) when it’s on the menu. Since we also want to make sure we get some bison or elk while we’re in Montana and we sometimes have trouble getting enough greens, we decided to share the halibut cake (with grilled asparagus, local microgreens, and pesto aioli), the [huge] kale Caesar salad (chiffonade kale, shaved artisan cheeses, housemade sourdough croutons), and an elk burger (melted gruyère, tomato jam, arugula, truffled porcini aioli). And of course some beers; it is, after all, Montana Ale Works.

After a flight of three to taste (Cascade Tartini Sour, Yuppie Hammer NEIPA, Snowblind White Stout), the pint in the photo is Snowblind White Stout, from Kettlehouse Brewing Co. in Missoula. The white stout was excellent!

We did not go wrong following Elsa’s recommendation to get the appetizer. Indeed, all the food, and the beers, were delicious! And Elsa was a terrific server!

It seems we may have had one of the last pours of Cascade Brewing’s Tartini Sour. Cascade’s ownership was undergoing a transfer when the still-majority owner suddenly passed away in May. The liquor license was cancelled 10 days after the majority owner died and neither side of the ownership transfer was prepared to keep the business open. So one of Portland, Oregon’s more notable breweries shut its doors. » More: [ New School Beer ] [ Oregon Live ]
