Naples – Day 3. The ruins at Herculaneum are much smaller than those of Pompei but they are better preserved. Although less well known today than Pompeii, Herculaneum was the first, and for a long time the only, buried Vesuvian city to be found. It was buried under volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 and discovered in 1709, 40 years before Pompei.
I took many, many pictures when we visited Herculaneum but I have limited myself to the barest minimum not to bore you. There weren’t many people around so we could stroll around the ‘lost’ city at leisure and take as many pictures as we wished without any hindrance.
Thank you so much for your views, comments and fav's - always appreciated.
