@nana2r - Thank you Carren! He told me he had a hard time getting them to bloom too! So he put them in pots and kept them in the green house until the buds started to appear. These are sitting on his deck.

@lynnb - It has been a very long week. I believe the hardest thing when you lose a loved one is that you need to deal with the loss in your heart and mind as well as helping others to deal with it. Our granddaughter because of her child like faith is helping the adults through this. Today is the burial with full military honors so I am sure it will be a hard day. Thank you for your concern and friendship! I can't adequately express how much it means to me.

Thank you all so much for your gracious comments. I went out to buy some flowers for the flower bed around my flag pole. The owner is a friend of mine and he told me about these hydrangeas he had potted and placed on his deck. Otherwise I wouldn't have seen them.
