My computer was acting up for two days and I have spent more time on it than I would have liked. My Lightroom and PhotoShop programs were giving me fits. I was also trying to capture some of the birds coming to the feeder while there is still some snow on the ground. Tomorrow it is supposed to rain. Hopefully everything is back to normal.
Nice shot, got to love those red cardinals against the snow.
I hear you on the computer issues. My photoshop is getting slower and slower as my computer gets more crowded...I always wonder if I am one file away from a crash...guess it is time to do some computer maintenance and file trimming but that is so boring compared to taking and editing photos that I keep putting it off.
@gardencat - I bought external hard drives to save and work on my pictures. My first one is 2 terabytes and my second one is 3 terabytes. Something happened to my PhotoShop 5.5.I use to be able to open my RAW files from my T3i but when I got the 70D they wouldn't open. Now I can't open my old T3i files. I can in Lightroom but not PhotoShop. I've been trying to update the Camera RAW database but it keeps failing. I have been looking on the Adobe website but am not getting anywhere. Plus I think one of my RAM sticks went bad. I had 16 gigs of RAM but now I have 8. I need to find out what I need to replace it.
@skipt07 I had a similar problem when I introduced a new Sony camera to my gear. I finally found a link to an Adobe DNG converter which I now run the Sony RAW images through before trying to open them in Photoshop. Not sure if that would be of any help with your Canon file issue but let me know if you want me to try to find the link to that software for you.
Do you use the Canon EOS software to retrieve your photos from the camera?
@gardencat - Yesterday when I was reinstalling PhotoShop and Lightroom I Googled the problem to see if I could find an answer and one of the answers was what you just mentioned. When they showed the converter it looked familiar and I thought I had downloaded it, but it isn't on my hard drive or in my downloaded files. However I had did a restore to go back to to a time when PhotoShop would open the RAW files from the T3i. Maybe since I downloaded the converter after that it disappeared. I plug my card into the card reader on my computer and retrieve my photos through Lightroom. A few weeks ago a friend of mine who is selling her Sony camera told me that a person who is interested in buying her camera couldn't open her RAW files in PhotoShop. She asked me if I would try to open one. I was able to open it in my PhotoShop 5. I think it was then that I learned about the DNG converter. Recently I found a woman on Youtube who said that camera manufacturers have their own version of RAW that there isn't a universal version. But she said that DNG is and converts other forms of RAW without loss to the information. Thanks Joanne for affirming that I am not going crazy and that others have had the same problem!
That glorious pop of red a Cardinal adds to a wintery scene can't be beat! To capture it with a camera is such a thrill, something you've down right nicely with this image.
Beautiful shot Skip. I think I saw one of these for the first time when we were in Massachusetts at the end of our holiday. I was really excited as I would never have known what it was before doing this project. Fav.
