Amish Children Enjoying the Outdoors

These are my neighbor's children enjoying the sun and warmer temps while they last. Remember this photo tomorrow if we get what they are predicting. This is Sally and Steven.
If you have time view on black!
Wonderful shot. The kids in the scene are a bonus.

Pretty spring scene - that we really don't want to turn into a pretty winter scene??? Love the Amish hat.

wonderful shot; I've read that the Amish don't like having their pictures taken, so I'm hesitant to take them.

@lynnz - I have heard that too. But I have talked to my neighbor about this and both he and his wife have told me that they don't mind. I have also been told that the Amish at a young age 16 or 18 make a decision as to whether they will follow the Amish way of life. I was told that until they make that commitment it is okay to take pictures of those under that age. So here is the dilemma. Too many different stories on whether Amish desire to have their picture taken. It could depend on the different settlements, as they call them under the leadership of their bishop. Or it can be strictly each individual Amish person preference. We, English as they refer to non-Amish, would be perturbed if people were taking our pictures all the time wouldn't we? Personally, I respect their privacy and not take a photo of them blatantly which could upset someone. I do know that for the most part the Amish are friendly people. But, not all that drive past our home return my wave when I am out. I could ask my neighbor again but I could be just getting his thoughts on the matter.

Very nice candid capture and interesting information. I've heard that they don't like to have their pictures taken, too, and I try to respect that and like Lynn @lynnz I also hesitate to take pictures of them. And like you said, Skip, I wouldn't want strangers taking my picture either.

I am always hesitant to take photos of people in general so I really struggle with candid street photography. I know that I don't like my photo being taken.
Lovely scene though, they look like they are enjoying themselves.

Sweet shot! I also wondered the same sentiments as @lynnz . Often at Union Station here in Chicago I see them, though not sure if they are Amish or Mennonites, whilst I have no problem doing candid street shots I always shy away from shooting them, even though they interest me.

@ukandie1 _ There are so many different sects of Amish it is hard to tell. Usually you can get a pretty good idea by the clothes they wear. You will see Mennonite women wearing sneakers and a wider range of dress colors. Most Amish women, at least in my area you only see them wearing two maybe three different colors. Usually blue. The Mennonites will also wear brighter colors and the women wear small white bonnets. The Amish women will wear a large black bonnet when they are away from home, going grocery shopping, to church, or out in public around us English. Blue scarves covering their heads around the house or out working in the garden or sometimes a small white bonnet.
