@milaniet - That's too bad. We didn't see a whole lot of people where we were. They were going to a large cemetery for a service of some sort. So maybe people chose to go there instead of standing along the street.. Many communities held their own event so that reduces the size of the crowds too.
@taffy - Oh it was pretty intimate. We decided to go to this parade as it was held in the biggest city. It turned out to be probably the smallest parade. Would you believe 10 minutes? If it wasn't for the golf carts and fire trucks it would have been over sooner. 😔
I love the idea of using golf carts for this. I have only just realised that the USA has a Memorial Day in May. I am so used to the Remembrance Sunday here in the UK on 11th November. Nice shot.
@casablanca - I noticed that some of the riders in the golf carts are wearing VFW hats and white dress shirts. Maybe they were unable to march the parade route?
Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day and Americans decorated just about everything in red, white and blue. Flags were flown abundantly. Now it seems like the focus is more on the three day weekend as it marks the unofficial start of summer. But then that depends on the community. We've been in small towns that have kept the traditions of decorating more so than larger cities.
