Slavery is an ugly word. Most if not all nations have had to deal with it in some form. Some still do. In the 1860's the topic of slavery divided the United States. It even divided families to the point of a war. North versus the South. Family against family. End slavery or keep it? Every one of the 36 United States at the time participated in this War. This is the only war the United States entered into that no matter the outcome it would lose as we fought against not just a point of view but ourselves. In total there were over 1 million casualties.
Civil War Re-enactment. A look back in history. Even as recently as this past week Civil War monuments are being destroyed by those opposed to the plight of slaves. But as bad as it was it is still a part of who we are. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it if we remove all reminders.
This image is fantastic. Your work with the crisp sharpness in the soldiers, the softer background, the action, all works so well. And it's interesting to read about.
