Sorry to be gone for a spell, gang. I had a little three week workfest that kept me away from all things 365 and internet. I grabbed this shot of a kid who decided we needed some entertainment while hanging at the Newport Beach Starbucks - something I absolutely despise, BTW. I recently learned that an Ollie is jumping in the air. This kid went up against that small pole and launched himself up over it.....and did NOT stick the landing. It was my only take.
So this didn't entail multiple shots to create a levitation...good...you don't have time for that! Nicely accomplished...but do you absolutely despise Starbucks or kids who disturb your reverie while hanging out at Starbucks?
Work stopped play again Ron, pleased to see your back again, Superb action image, movement frozen in time with great detail and colour, do kids grow facial hair at an earlier age in Newport Beach or has this guy not grown up yet:)
@Weezilou Nope, Louise, single shot indeed. I will admit to throwing some highlight onto the subject - he was a bit shaded and needed to come out a bit. As for my dislikes, yes to both! I do not care one bit for Starbucks as the ordering process, the names they give everything, and their little unrequested messages irritate me - not to mention overpriced everything. Then again, noisy kids and their clackety skateboards rank right up there too!
@onewing Thanks, Babs. Yeah I couldn't quite figure out what was going on - whether I was dealing with a young old man or a old young man. Either way, though, he was pretty good on the board.
@pcoulson 100% right, Peter - work in the way again. I'm taking steps to correct that. Retirement is less than two months away! As for the guys age/facial hair, see the comments above. I'm still scratching my head over this dude.
Yeah, I think Starbucks is bent on world domination (or, at least every corner in the world!), and this guy seems more interested in getting over a hump! Great action shot, regardless!
oh, joy! a kindred spirit. i absolutely hate starbucks! the pretentious so and so's! you can't simply order. and they engage you in stupid conversation. please don't get me started! :-) as for this photo, great catch, ron. and glad to have you back!
@panthora Thanks, Osia - I'm pretty sure that since I took this shot last Saturday, three more Starbucks have opened on the same block. I just don't get it.
@lyndemc LOL! I've fallen out of action shot practice myself. In my old days, sports was almost all I shot, and I've always had a soft spot for stopping action. I miss it, but have learned many new skills doing stills and such. This has gotten me interested in getting back to some more action shots. You've been warned!
@summerfield Thanks, Vicki, yep, you summed Starbucks up pretty accurately. Must be something about us photographers that makes us dislike this place so much. Good to be back!
