You should always photograph your food before you eat it....especially when it looks as luscious as this!! I have been pretty busy and lax at commenting lately, so I went to see your shots that I missed, and was surprised that you had been AWOL most of this month. Glad you are back!
What a nice offering! Agreeing with you and Osia @panthora that food, well-presented, needs to be photographed first! I'm sure we all take a little ribbing for doing that, but, for me, it's part of my daily photo journal... Having spent the last several days with the grandsons, I watched them dive into strawberries and grapes so fast, all I'd have gotten would have been stems and little leaves!
I bet strawberries are in abundance in CA right now. These look scrumptious. Love the bokeh created by the background one. Didn't know a strawberry could do that!
So glad you're back. You and your pictures and comments have been missed. I wonder if you see young hummingbirds buzzing about your place now that the nest is empty.
Love stawberry season! Been eating alot of them (with Cool Whip). Glad you're back! We have to do another get together with Louise & Ken and other 365r's. Maybe in April? Or May?
@Weezilou@panthora - i agree with you, my favourite ladies. although my problem is, i see food and that's the only time i forget i have a camera in my hand! :-D
@joysfocus (evesdropping...) Let's start by picking something in April so if that falls apart, we can begin to look at May... I really have enjoyed spending time with all of you and would love to do so again! (I'll start looking at our calendar, put it out there and see if we can make a match!)
Ron, our hummingbird is back and sitting on the same nest, I noticed today! Stay tuned! (We watched two of them flitting through the yard over that last couple days!)
@panthora Thanks, Osia. I agree - always shoot, then eat. Sometimes I just continue to shoot and never eat! Errr, not really. I've always read that food is one of the hardest things to photograph correctly. Guess I've been lucky.
@Weezilou Ha ha, yeah, you have to be quick on the shutter with hungry boys around. As much as I enjoy shooting food and seeing others' shots, I just shake my head at the people on Facebook who insist on letting the world know what they are eating every night. I don't care! And they're usually terrible photos. Man, I sound grumpy tonight!
@aglennc Thanks, Anita - as usual the camera made the subject look a little better than deserved, but it still looked pretty good in real life. Good to hear from you!
@lyndemc Thanks, Denise - shooting at f/4.5 will do that sometimes! I was playing a bit with f-stops, and that one happened to turn out the best.
As for the hummingbirds, I'll post the "after" shortly with a little story about their first flight. They seem to have moved on to other places - probably out exploring their new found world.
@photohoot@joysfocus Ah, you two ladies both agree on the whipped cream. I agree, that's the only way to eat them! Joy, see Louise's suggestion below. Would love to get the gang back together again - I still need to use my Wild Animal Park pass sometime - and I just got a new 2X teleconverter! ;-)
@pcoulson Thank you kindly, Peter. Like you, I'm a fan of shallow DOF and a nice background blur. I missed doing this over the past couple of weeks. Appreciate the comments.
@terryliv Report coming on the all grown hummingbirds shortly, Poppo. I can report that they have departed, are healthy and fully grown, and I am now officially an empty nester - literally.
@clake Thanks for the comments Caroline. I was only out for a couple of weeks, and it's amazing how much you miss it. And of course all of the interaction on 365!!
@Weezilou I agree, Louise - start with April and see what everyone's availability is. Rumor has it I, at least, should be home for the entire month. I have at least one final trip to take some time in May, but that's far enought away for now. Looking forward to it!
@stray_shooter Re: Mama, I craned my neck under the fichus for easily two minutes this afternoon, *knowing* the nest was right in there, and when I finally saw her, an arm's reach away, she was sitting still and watching me the whole time! We had to tell the workmen today to be careful working under there... I'll be keeping an eye on them! Maybe put up a "Quiet Zone" sign!
Next...Ken printed me a calendar today so I can fill our "knowns". I love your idea of WIld Animal Park...Flora AND Fauna! I've no fancy lenses (and am still looking for my two kit lenses!) OH...have to get both cameras cleaned and refurbished ASAP. "Spots" on all my big Nikon pix... Panasonic is "worn out"... I can mail it in and they'll send another.
Let 's say that "If you live "local" and you follow Ron, you're invited to join us...date to be determined... Ron, you and Joy @joysfocus should pick the day of the week that works best and we can build from there/ Retirees have more flexibility... Start throwing out suggestions for dates and I'll try to collate them...
Cat got me up at 5AM so my night's over... Hasta manana!
@stray_shooter PS...As one who, in the past, painstakingly decorated cakes, I know that a photo is all that will be left minutes after hours (and sometimes days) of preparation! But to *tell* the world about my meals on a daily basis...well, no. Check out the conversation that ensued under this lovely photo: http://365project.org/lifepause/365/2015-04-02

nice colours here, ron, and the focus is awesome!
