"The road to Manderley lay ahead. There was no moon. The sky above our heads was inky black. But the sky on the horizon was not dark at all. It was shot with crimson, like a splash of blood. And the ashes blew towards us with the salt wind from the sea." - from Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier.
"Rebecca" is one of my all-time favourite novels. i would think that a lot of you would be familiar with this beautiful story. if you aren't guess it's time to read it. and watching the movie is not the same! :-)
this was yesterday's sunset over toronto. we had a few clouds to the northwest and the sun rays were spectacular behind the clouds that made them looked like they were on fire. after uploading my shots from yesterday and today and i saw this photograph, i knew it would complement that scene in "Rebecca" when the main protagonist, the second Mrs. de Winter, and her husband were coming back to the de Winter estate of Manderley only to find it on fire, a doing of the housekeeper Mrs. Danvers who was obsessed with the late Rebecca de Winter.

we had a lovely long weekend in toronto, quite hot but not terribly humid. it was supposed to have rained today but the rain had been postponed for overnight and tomorrow. my laptop's been installed with a fresh antivirus and spyware protection. yay!
Wow! Great capture! Love the colour. And I'm sorry to say....no idea what book you are talking about. I guess I will have to read it.....but not until winter. Too busy enjoying the weather while we still have it. :)
that is totally awesome! and yes...still no laptop! thanks for staying with me...another week til it is returned, I have just been told. still I am going away to the south of England this weekend and I have the camera...so fingers crossed that I get some good shots, that I get the laptop back next Tuesday and that the software for the Lumix is still on there for me to use!!!
perfect shot to go with a classic. i have long believed the photography and writing go hand-in-hand. when i learned b&w, i took a calligraphy class because i always had lines in my head when i printed and wanted them on my mattes. this photo is stunning.
@altadc - seldom see this thing. i was in fact hesitant to shoot at first, but i thought since i was holding the camera anyway. thanks, alta. @zamer1969 - thanks, liza. so i take it you're enjoying your summer? @danig - thanks, DG. you noticed we both posted something in the tinge of 'yellow'? how eerie is that? @inafromswabia - thanks, ina.
@bkbinthecity - god sure distributes the beauty around us! thank you. @steeler - intrigue? yes, we like that! thank you, howard. @patticake - patt,i enjoy your weekend trip and i look forward to seeing the photos you'll be taking. and hope you get the laptop and the lumix is still in there. fingers crossed! thank you, patti. @catsmeowb - that's a neat idea! but although i have a decent handwriting, my hands aren't that steady anymore. :-) thanks, camille. @ilseal - thank you, ms. ilse. @jobesekama - thank you, beth.
@espyetta - hmmm. i'd be interested in seeing the carol burnette spoof, i think she is an outstanding comedic actor. i read rebecca a long long time ago and the book i actually have is the screenplay. thank you, marybeth. i appreciate itl
