page 120, The Man Who Loved Books Too Much by Allison Hoover Bartlett
the word today is 'felt'. in the book it is a verb, in simple past tense. but the word itself can be a noun. and it so happened that my seven-year old grandson darren has a hat that is made of felt. it's too bad he would only be here tomorrow night, not today, otherwise i'd have made him wear it and you would've seen how handsome he is especially when wearing his hat. he loves this hat and he's been hounding me to find him a feather. and he wants the biggest feather there is. and a green one.
so when last month i was trying to sort out my craft materials, i came across a package of green feathers. grandson was flabbergasted at the size of the green feathers and green happened to be his favourite colour. how cool is that?
but looking at this now, i think if he actually wears this hat with this green feather, i'd imagine he'll look like robin hood, or william tell. in which case i should go to the dollar store and get him a set of bow and arrow. and a pair of tights! :-)
Too Cool!! Love the way that you play with words, summerfield! Great composition, great idea. Be careful with the "bow and arrow!" My dad gave me a set when I was young and I shot an arrow right through the upstairs window!! End of bow and arrow. :(
@karenann - well, kareann, better it was the window than any living creature! okay, i am rethinking the bow and arrow, maybe a ukelele for the grandson then. :-) thank you, karenann,.
@alia_801 - i was going to use that word, but the boy is actually too small for his age (he's seven) and once overheard us talking about him and his size. when he's here, he normally sits with me when i'm doing 365 and he reads my captions. hahahaha. the captions not the comments, thankfully. thank you, alia.
maybe he likes a particular singing group like the jonas brothers or justin timberlake - but they don't wear feathers in their fedoras that i know of. have you asked him what train of thought he has? where we might see robin hood he might be seeing rock star. awesome photo, btw!
@catsmeowb - omg, camille, you hit it right in the head. he does want to be a rockstar. he sings well but he's a little shy. he's very articulate. the last time they were here he was teaching me how to use the controller for the PS3 because he and his brother like to play with me. i was amazed at how well he explained things like a teacher and not get frustrated with me. he has videos when he was still 3 or 4 and lipsyncing michael jackson's 'santa claus is coming to town' complete with knee sliding on the floor. he is interested in what i do everytime he's here. when he was 4 he asked if i could buy him a 'netbook' and tried to save for it by performing for us and we'd give him the token dollar or two. well, what do you know, grandma was so pleased and touched; and it happened there was a sale on netbooks! thanks so much, camille.
@steeler - but that shouldn't stop you when you want a hat. maybe you haven't found the one that would make her drool (more) over you with a hat! thanks, howard.
Nice photo and really enjoyed the story of your grandson. I also know of a young man who has been wearing a hat for several years now. I really like them.
aaawww, children always want to look like someone else they think is cool. hey, lots of times, so do adults. why do women go crazy getting the right hair cuts, trying to lose weight, wearing the right shoes? and men are no better. i guess our children learn very well.
Nice twist of the word to pull out a picture! I like how you've processed it with a texture too to give it that old fashioned feel. My grandfather wore a hat like this with a feather in it too (smaller and not colored (o: ). I can picture a handsome young fellow who wants to be a rock star wearing this! What a great grandma to have the perfect feather for it. Nice shot!
@pamfromcalgary - thanks, pam. much appreciated. when i came to canada, i fed my hunger for wearing hats. but one day my hat was blown off and my then very young nephew tried to run after it, in the middle of a busy intersection. since then, bandanna is the thing for me!
@catsmeowb - as children, we do learn from observing the adults; it's a lifetime lesson. thanks, camille.
@olivetreeann - thanks, ann. this challenge is really making me sit down and test my creativity. of course it doesn't help that the book i chose is about books. but it makes the brain crank a little bit more, which is good practice especially at my age! next month, i'm probably not going to get into any challenge seeing that i will be on a trip. but if there's one that do-able i still might.
@patticake - yes, sometimes i could be. this theme shots, i reckon is much like writing, you've got to give everything a meaning other than what you see or hear. thank you, patti. much appreciated, my friend.
