my apartment building is situated in a busy neighbourhood. in olden times it was one of the main highways in toronto and now it is a hodge podge of small retail businesses. this is the view as you step out of the main doors of the building, looking left to right or west to east.
on the very left is the building where the french patisserie is located. across is a quaint little restaurant/bistro where partner and i would sometimes go to as they have healthy gourmet offerings on their menu. a few doors down is a small shop where they manufacture violins. how cool is that?!?
i have a choice of two subway stops, greenwood in the west and coxwell in the east, each a three-minute walk from my building. right next door is a public parking so if you're driving and you visit me, you can park there and it's just a few seconds walk to my door. there's a little parkette where i take the grands sometimes and where i go and practice my macros during the summer. we are near a hospital, a mosque, several churches, a major drugstore and until two years ago two buildings to the east of us there was a funeral home. six blocks southeast, there are two cemeteries.
further west is the greektown where there are a number of greek restaurants, casual and fine dining, as well as cheese stores, butchers and other retail businesses supported mainly by the greek population. in recent years, however, the neighbourhood has changed. now there are more sushi places (which is quite nice), thai and other fusion-type restaurants.
yup! around here, you're taken care of, from cradle to grave. and that is a good thing.
and of course, i can always take a long walk (about 30 minutes) to the beaches of lake ontario.
Amazing neighborhood! What diversity . . the restaurants, the churches, various stores, etc. And all within walking distance. Or subways. It's a small microcosm of life. Thank you for the view of your "hood!"
@russianblue - come by anytime, kass. and thank you.
@myhrhelper - i don't know how to not do this, but everytime i use the panorama button - where i shoot in 3's - the result is always like this. the road is actually straight. i'm sure i'm doing something wrong. thank you, kathy.
@jannkc - the bridge (fuji finepix) has the panorama button, you take 3 sets of shots and it stitches them together and the shots come out as 1 pic. thank you, jann.
@karenann - come by my 'hood' anytime, girlfriend! thank you.
@beba8162 - well, roberta, anytime you're in the neighbourhood, you just got to let me know and i'll take you around. i walk this stretch during good weather, a good 10 subway stops. about 10 or so kilometres, roughly 6 miles. then i eat like a horse. thankyou, roberta.
@vikkigm - hello, vikki, my namesake. thank you very much for stopping by.
interesting neigbourhood!where i live there are only houses,a few little shops for food supplies and nothing else!there are about 5 km to the subway station, you can make it by bus in i5 min, either 1 hour!
i envy you for the greek restaurants,i like greek food very much!
I love the camera curve- it's like a fish-eye lens but not as drastic. Your neighborhood sounds like a great place to live. Thanks for taking us on the tour!
@danig - thank you, DG. of course, i always think of you whenever i am in that subway station. always feel like making a graffiti of 'danielle' before the 'greenwood' sign. :-)
@myautofocuslife - thank you, livia. it is wonderfully convenient to live around here, in this neighbourhood. except for those stupid drivers who are always running the red light at the corner. heh!
@moonshadow - thank you, moonshadow. it is quite nice around here.
@danig - but i won't do it, there are cameras around the station, you know! yes, back to the patisserie, see my cholocate posting on feb. 24th. that came from there! and that reminds me, i should dash out and get some blueberry danish. it's not just an ordinary blueberry danish, it's to die for!
