car! by summerfield

car!

in canada, nearly every person who grew up here would have played street hockey and "car!" is a familiar expression. okay, that's enough about hockey.

i walked down to the market at lunchtime. waiting for the light to turn green on me, there was a small traffic jam and i didn't notice this red mini cooper in front of me. when i remembered the prompt for today was car, the mini had sped off towards the highway. toink! been distracted lately, too many stories in my head that need to be written down.

in any case, by the time i reached the market, saw three black mini coopers, one was parked in between other cars so i couldn't take a photo; then there was a blue one (this is a blue mini cooper), a yellow one (yes, yellow), a grey mini and a white mini.
lots of them, and there were probably a lot more that my old brain did not recognize. is it mini cooper day today then? don't know. maybe if i had stayed out long enough, i'd have seen a green mini (i know i've seen one before) and an orange mini.

trying to enjoy the last month of picnik. i will miss the mirror frame, this was the only reason i paid money for picnik.
Great shot & processing! It looks like you went to the car dealer to get this! Check out Picmonkey when you get the chance. It was designed by people who used to work at Picnik. They have most of the same basics as Picnik and promise to add more on in the future. I see a mirror frame possibly coming down the pike.

@olivetreeann - the car was quite dirty, that's why i had to process it. it was parked in front of the sony theatre and shot it from the other side of the street. yes, i like what happened after the processing but i can't remember what i did. haha! picmonkey sounds interesting! thank you, ann.

@sunnygreenwood - thank you, anne. i would have wanted a photo of kids playing street hockey, but as you know, around here one cannot just take those random photos anymore. i did see some kids playing hockey on the street last weekend, but i wouldn't take any sneak shots. that'd have been a nice play on the word "car".

The original mini was incredibly popular over here and rivalled the vw beetle for affordable car for the working class...the new mini is fantastic but pricey...the same youngsters that owned Mini's have now got a little bit more established and are buying the fancy new sporty ones.

Mini coopers are kind of rare on our roads. We are swamped by Japanese cars. This is a great shot, I love the processing, the color tones are wonderful! Love that gleam of reflected light. 8)

Beautiful composition, framing and processing on this pic! Sounds like it was the mini-driver club's shopping day! :)

@cscecil - thank you, CS. although i can't really remember anymore how i did it. i do know i deliberately blurred the far ground to bring out the car.

@steeler - i know what you mean; now even the beetle is expensive, no longer for the working class. i remember a time in high school when nine of us fit in the beetle. in the cooper we could've fit at least 11! thank you, howard.

@myautofocuslife - in the country where i came from i could only see parts of the mini cooper - one mini, all parts everywhere :-D thank you, livia.

@alia_801 - i know! they were just everywhere! and i wasn't 'sleep walking' i could've presented you guys with a red mini! thank you, alia.

Great processing - love minis! I didn't even take a lunch for me so didn't get to enjoy the downtown scene. What's going on with Picnik? Wil it not be available going forward?

@meoprisan - thank you, mihaela. much appreciated.

@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. you never know, maybe he's actually listening. :-) one day it just might show up in your driveway.

@russianblue - thank you, kass. the last few days were really beautiful. picnik closes on april 19th. they said it was going to be part of google+ after that. for the moment i'm alternating between picnick and iPiccy.com although their frame feature is not as extensive or not even close to that of picnik.

Lovely tonal presentation. Nice one.

@danig - thank you, DG. haven't tried picmonkey. must try it soon. i'm really going to miss the 'mirror' frame effect. haven't seen that with any other site.

@netkonnexion - thank you, damon. it's quite lovely you took the time to comment on my photos. i appreciate that a lot, really.
