or in the case of this cormorant, drying solo. while his buddies were all gathered on a nearby tree, this one separated itself from the flock.
on our way back from port colborne the other weekend, partner drove the route along the niagara river so i could take photos and we saw these birds. they are rather ugly, they look like dinosaurs. their feathers look like scales of a dragon. cormorants dry themselves by holding their wings out in the sun. their feathers are waterproof, but they don't know that.

second week of the thumbnail challenge and we're dealing with numbers.
thank you so much for your views and comments. i sincerely appreciate them. i shall catch up with your photos.
I think that he looks so grand sitting up there ... very regal. He's doing it just for you, I think. Love your focus and the pov. Just beautiful, my friend.
i have never seen one of these in the wild. wonderful capture, Vikki, he looks so regal. like what you did here, it really highlights the shot and makes him stand out as he should. awesome capture.
I wish I could FAV a thumbnail collection. Do they get voted on later? I looked at several of them and yours is by far the best I saw (I didn't see them all but from what I did see I liked yours).
@espyetta - thank you, MB. you're like me, it doesn't take much to amuse us! hahaha.
@olivetreeann - which part, the "i am the king of the world!" part? i should watch that movie again, i have the DVD. thing is it's so long. thank you, ann.
@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. i had a good practice with these birds. only a few ones came out good, but in time, i should be able to take good shots.
@myhrhelper - thank you, kathy. that means a lot to me. if you must know, i strive to do better not just for my own satisfaction, but for all of you my friends as i draw inspiration from all of you.
@espyetta - hey there! i now have a photo of two in focus bees (in same frame), a bee in flight and a bee butt! tee-hee! i just have to find a way to post them, maybe in between the july movie thingie. you know that if anyone posts a picture of a bug, you either inspired it or it's dedicated to you. :-)
@summerfield lol I have only seen the advertisements for it- not the whole movie! I was thinking of the picture where the girl is at the farthest tip of the ship with her arms out and the wind blowing her hair. I guess she's not really solo in that shot because the guy is behind her- but this fellow's wingspan just made me think of that!
Wow...you captured the cormorant perfectly Summerfield. I'm so jealous. Beautiful composition and pov. Love how you captured it in silhouette. I've always imagined them as birds of personified midnight basking in the daylight. You can almost hear Dave Bowman's whispered voice when you see them...."My God...its full of stars." Fav.
