October 'local wonders' theme for today was historical landmark. The Wrigley building is the white one just off center, an iconic image for Chicago, and one of our best known historical landmarks. It sits just off the Chicago River on Michigan and Wacker, the corner where Fort Dearborn was founded in 1803. Taken tonight because Jim and I had about 40 minutes between end of dinner and picking up some friends who are staying with us. Jim agreed to drive me to some of the bridges and wait on the bridge, with flashing lights, so I could take some shots. Unfortunately, I only had my monopod and it was hard holding the camera steady with cars going by that caused the bridge to shake. Instead of a long exposure, I had to up the ISO to get anything at all. This was the best of the bunch.
A less conventional historical landmark is in my extras album: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-10-02
Thank you for your wonderful comments and favs on some recent photos -- it's been exciting to see them on pp! I'm looking forward to the weekend when I will be viewing, commenting, and catching up!
Lovely shot with great coloured reflections. I need to look at a map of Chicago - is it one river with lots of bridges or are there more rivers which flow through the city?
@pamknowler Good question Pam! We actually have only the one river called, unimaginatively, the Chicago River, but there's a north branch and a south branch that have their own personalities. The photos I've taken are all from the segments where the river meets Lake Michigan -- from there west about a mile.
wow. amazing night shot. the light is fabulous. those reflected colors in the water lead you right to the Wrigley Bldg! Jim was SOOOOO nice to stop on the bridge with flashers for you! Mine hubby would NEVER!
How beautiful! I love visiting my daughter who lives in the Andersonville neighborhood in Chicago...you certainly have no shortage of "local wonders" in that fabulous city!
@taffy - Me too! I think Adam will join us too. Yeah Ive always told people that NYC is so electric with big lights that in some areas its like shooting in the day or almost anyway.
