View from my hotel balcony - not bad! Looking down on the Pier -- large white building contains shops and posh hotel. Lights in middle of right side are where the huge city park and pool are located. Mostly mud flats along the walkway - not a safe swimming area, so all water contact activity was in the pool.
Main album commentary has more details on travel and thanks for all your kind wishes! http://365project.org/taffy/365/2014-10-14
Wow, welcome to Australia. I am a little jealous. It's freezing here at the moment. That is an awesome view. Enjoy your stay in Cairns. I'm looking forward to lots of great shots.
Wonderful capture of this beautiful place, and interesting narrative of your travels. Who said that travelling is only fun? There are sacrifices along the way. Now time to enjoy your destination.
What a wonderful view. Pretty jealous of the weather as it is really chilly for this time of year here in New South Wales at the moment.
Stay away from the crocs.
I think I am jealous because this is part of your job. I attended a meeting on inventory today and wrote a memo for the VP. Well, no one promised me glamorous when I became an accountant. LOL Fabulous view. I love blue hour photography.
Stunning shot Taffy - brings back memories. It also reminds me if you have the time (probably not) there is a day trip to Green Island on the end of that pier from memory (but it will take the whole day).
@busylady Here for working with a school, but looks like I'll have Sunday to play and I also have a photo walk planned in Brisbane -- a good combination, and lucky to have the work that brought me here!
@joansmor Between you and Kathie @kathiecb (and maybe jet lag), you've both made me laugh aloud all by myself in the room. I appreciate your comments and visit and love your sense of humor!
@silver_fox It turns out I'll have part of the day on Sunday on my own. My hosts suggested the cable car up the mountain and train back, with a walk in the rainforest at the top. Does that ring a bell? and if it does, what do you think re photographic opportunities? I think a full day trip may not be realistic given what I have to do to get ready for Monday's work and we'll be in Brisbane overnight Fri-Satuday. And which day(s) work for you for coffee? Is Wednesday late afternoon still a possibility (the 22nd)? That's the day I fly in and Cindy (my friend/host tehre) and I have it free to do photo walks and play. Are you still at 'outlook' for email? Can send a message there re connecting.
Taffy, yes the cable car up to Kuranda, which is a pretty rainforest town on top of the range, and I think they have markets there on Sunday. You then come back on the train which goes past Barron Falls and Stony Creek falls. You can also do the trip in reverse. I will fill you in when I see you Friday. I have spent a lot of time in Cairns.
@tomtom Oh, great! I think I need to make a reservation on Saturday at the latest, so I'll talk with you first and then can call to set it up. I'm excited that I might have the day free as it was not anticipated. Keeping fingers crossed! Oh -- I've fixed half my cell phone problem. I can now send a text, but can't receive any.
@taffy Yep know the cable car it is about 10k north of Cairns. Have not done it. so can't comment. However I think my daughter has done it and enjoyed it (but no comment on photography)
So fitting in Brisbane as well, you will be busy. See if you can get to Southbank and try the Jade Buddah (I think); it's a bar; for shots of the story bridge.
Still on outlook if you want to send me an email address.
Wednesday late should be OK - meetings until 4.30ish so if after that is fine.
You're amazing Taffy, halfway round the world, hungover with jet lag and still taking magic photos. This is a great shot of a wonderful view. Would you believe that I've never been to Cairns?
@golftragic Thanks Marnie! Cairns is really lovely. I think it would be a great vacation area with tons to do. I'm mostly seeing the town and the inside of a school, but am still enjoying myself quite a bit. I have a quick overnight in Brisbane tomorrow which I'm looking forward to as well.
@taffy awesome capture.
As a local in Cairns for 30 months..take Kuranda train up and then the cable car down ...so you don't get the morning sun in your eyes when u take photos from the ocean. Afternoon cable ride is so much betterfor photos. Did it twice...awesome. Don't forget to do Cape Tribulation as well and there is over 20 waterfalls to visit.. you will visit 2 on ur train/ cable ride. Have fun.
@leestevo Hi Lee-Ann...that's what I've just signed up to do tomorrow. Morning via train, afternoon down via cable car. It's my only free day which is sad as there is so much more to see. 30 months here must have been fantastic!
@taffy Hi Taffy...you will have a great time. Spend a bit of time at the shops & markets at Kuranda. Looking forward to your photos. Next time you have come back to Cairns for holidays not for business....lol Have a great time. I do miss Cairns.
