Spiky Yellow Flower by taffy

Spiky Yellow Flower

Photographed with my macro lens, then converted to B&W after editing in LR5. But wasn't sure whether I liked the b&w or color version best. So ... I posted both.
B&W version: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2015-04-27

Love these Pincushion Proteas. They are so tactile and have great colour.

Lovely shot. Prefer this one to the b&w.

Super awesome- love them both:)

both versions neat, but I like the yellow glow in the black. Is that a 2nd flower behind it, ar some kind of reflection?
April 28th, 2015
@irisn Thanks for the kind comments, Iris. It's actually a second flower that I'd positioned behind it in hopes that it would have the feeling of a reflection. I used a relative large aperture (f3.2) in hopes of a clear focus on the front flower but not so deep a DOF as to focus on the back flower as well.

I like the color version best. Great detail and I like the idea of the second flower being a kind of reflection.

Stunning shot with interesting and clever reflection feel

Beautiful image with lovely detail. I prefer the Colour version as it adds a richness to the shot!

Beautiful shot and lovely detail. I am a big fan of b&w and I checked out both of these shots. I think I prefer the colour version though. Flowers always look better in colour I think.

Outstanding shot, focus, details, dramatic color against the black
April 28th, 2015
I prefer this between the two of them. The color version maintains textures while emphasizing nature's brilliant yellow.

April 28th, 2015
I like the yellow version! Incredible detail!
April 28th, 2015
My vote goes for this, the color is simply so vivid and it pops against the black better

They're both great, but have different strengths. I like both shots, but if I have to choose, I'd go with the colour, it's so cheerful.

I could have sworn that I commented on this one, but sometimes I think I view them and figure I will get back to it with a thoughtful comment later, which never happens!!! Yes, I like the color version much better, but you know me, I am partial to color!! ;-)
