Looking across the flat lands of the midwest, we often joke here if we saw a mountain, we'd complain that it was blocking our view. So view, here, means "nothing is in the way of what we can see into infinity." That's what struck me as I looked west into the setting sun across Chicago, as it sprawls westward into the industrial district and suburbs beyond. I have no idea how many miles this represents -- am guessing a lot.
P3 sends his thanks to those who expressed their concern at his nose through the eye of the needle. He wants me to reassure you all that he's feeling much better today.
Have a great weekend and Happy May 1!
The sky looks as though it's bestowing its glen bounty on Chicago. I don't think we have a city here in the UK that would sprawl out like that as you have so much more land
A wonderful image Taffy! Love the fabulous sky contrasting with the buildings. I love city views especially when you can get high enough to get a good pov! So much detail too!
Super shot... so many textures, lines and colors, offset against that golden sky. Almost as interesting is to read the differing takes, above, on the huge urban sprawl of Chicagoland. This is a very strong, dramatic shot.
That what we complain about when someone puts a building up that blocks are view. You know I put up a two story house, you put up a three, and so then I make mine a four story house and so the came goes on. Really lovely view you captured.
Wow, it stretches out as far as your eye can see! Now that I think about it that's one of the reasons why I had to escape....the flatness did not agree with me, and neither did the lack of ocean proximity!! Seriously, though, this is a glorious picture with those last rays of the sun shining onto the city from between those clouds! Is this still from your rooftop?
Hey, Taffy! I think I can see my house!!! ;) That would be 40-ish miles from your study to mine (bc mine faces due east!). This "nothing in the way of" view is precisely why I have such a hard time here! I grew up in hills and mountains by which we made visual references to places and spaces. Here?? Flat...just flat. I'm with @panthora on this one. If anything's going to drive me out, it's the flat. I can get by with rivers, streams, ponds, lakes - although I love the ocean - but I long for a third dimension. You've captured the lack spectacularly!
@cazla indeed so different to UK. How would feel cazla? I'd feel slightly trapped by all that bustling buildings. Fabulous detail throughout and an amazing sky.
This shot so much tells me - well, there is civilization, that's great and important, but.... there is also "it": the bigger world, the nature that is so much greater, and so much more majestic than anything that have ever been created by men. Great shot.
I commented on this yesterday -- but I don't see it above! I think my new computer and I aren't getting along well yet. I had so much trouble uploading for a few days I had to do a work around from the usual. And my comments to you are gone! In any case, this IS a spectacular photo and one you will have done justice to with all your great photography from this place!
You are so good at getting the most interesting, stunning, fab shots. I always know my eyes will feast on something delightful when I click on your shots.
Looks even better on black!
What a beautiful view you have Taffy!
Fav!
