This indoor market is one of the only reconstructions that is more or less complete, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation in the 1950s. It's in the ancient city -- the actual place where Athens (and democracy) started. This building held the inside shops which align the wall opposite these columns. There isn't a structure in Greece that doesn't shrink us to feeling like little ants!
HDR to bring out the details and reflections and converted/processed in b&w using Silver Efex.
Thank you all so much for your responses to my first two shots from here -- especially the favs and wonderful comments on the sunset over Athens shot (and the fun comments on my shrinking the Parthenon with the Greek flag). I'm so appreciative!
Have arrived in Crete with a nice quite afternoon/evening to catch up on sleep, sort out how to get internet connection, and settle in before the conference starts.

PS. Have you seen the latest news on Syria? Isis are about to take Palmyra. Such an iconic and fabulous place, full of ancient historical monuments. We went there a few years ago, so glad we went, the Syrians are such lovely people.
I love this shot, Taffy. So symmetrical as you look right to left. Love the lighting and just your way of capturing this so well. Very cool in B&W too. FAV
Wonderful architectural composition, and very clever to use bracketing - it looks like a super high dynamic range! You have really used the columns so well throughout your frame!
Awesome contrast of the light and shadows as well as the repeating pattern...not to mention the leading lines...you just hit the mark of good photography here!
@busylady Bill, Junko, and I were just reading aloud from a news feed about ISIS taking Palmyra. There was a photograph of the important ruins there -- and knowing what they've been doing to other ancient sites, there's good reason to be seriously worried for both the people and their history.
Wonderful view....love how you captured the repetitive nature of these columns in the bright sunlight with the shadows repeating the rhythm....wonderful architectural shot!
@onewing Wow -- three years to live there! It must have made for some fascinating travel opportunities in that part of the world. I couldn't get over how beautiful the lighting was there and how deep the blue sea.
Brings back memories of our 3 years living in Cyprus.
