Greece Photo Day 2. At the Acropolis in Athens, people are totally dwarfed by the familiar majestic structures. I was trying to take a photo that I haven't already seen in textbooks a hundred times -- not easy to do for such a photographed site. I was standing under the Greek flag (which you can see flying over the Acropolis from almost any point in the city) and hoped this would make for a fun image. If you enlarge on black you can tell that the tiny spots toward the Parthenon are actually tourists. A huge part of our day and a half here has been touring the antiquities inside wonderful museums and at the Acropolis, the ancient agora where the original city was (I'm sure I stood in the exact spot of Socrates or Plato somewhere today!).

Thanks to all who wished me safe/fun travels. It's off to Crete tomorrow where the conference is being held so moving into a work mode soon.
Fantastic POV! I like the way you've dwarfed the acropolis- given it's huge
size. Fav! Greece is an incredibly beautiful place. I toured all over there
many years ago and would love to return. Enjoy Crete.
Wonderful. I went to Greece before the advent of digital photography. You were lucky to have clear blue sky because Athens is normally shrouded under polluted skies,
A beautiful capture. I've walked around there many times, and love wandering around the agora. Crete is my favourite island so magnificent. My son-in-law comes from there, from a lovely old village high above Sitea, Eastern Crete.
Classic sites are always difficult to do uniquely and yet retain the sense of place. I think you have achieved your objective the flag placement, especially as it firmly place the image in Greece.
Good shooting getting that iconic building in focus as well as the Greek flag! So thats what the flag looks like! I got sick in Athens years ago - don't know if it was the food - vine leaves etc or a bug. Hope you don't!
@maggiemae Oh dear! The same has happened to me today...hoping to rest up tomorrow and that it will go away! Thanks for the visit and kind words on this shot.
I love the novel way you've captured the acropolis and flag it makes it look so much more interesting than the tourist leaflets. Hope the bug clears up before you start work
Super shot, we were there in 1986 and they were still building it ha ha, it was covered with scaffolding. I thought for a minute they had finally finished, but I see a crane in the picture, so maybe not.
What a great shot, Taffy. I have lost track of you. So envious. Looks like a great time, well work and a great time. I hope you are feeling a lot better by the time you read this. FAV
@onewing Thanks Babs! Yes -- there is scaffolding everywhere and huge cranes. I was disappointed at first but realistically, I think it will be decades before they will finish the restoration, even of just the ruins! What a project to try to bring it back. The new museum helps see all they have done but have yet to do.
How wonderful this is Taffy, and indeed, an atypical vantage point! I believe you are one of the most traveled in our community, and bless you for sending back marvelous photos to share with us all!
@tosee Thanks, Tom. I did get my presets back. i can't remember exactly where it was, but there is a box you check on import that is counterintuitive. By clicking it, you say you want to do something manually that really should be auto or vice versa. All I had to do was unclick and everything came back as it should have.
@carolmw We're staying Rethymno on the northern coast, but I agree that Crete is really a beautiful place. I wish we could take advantage of more of the island -- I can tell we're only seeing a teeny glimpse of what it has to offer.
@taffy. I see you're staying in West Crete. The landscape is much greener there, than East Crete. Rethymnon has a lovely harbour, also Chania,if you get a chance to go there, and there is a beautiful war cemetery at Souda Bay,overlooking the bay.
Love that you framed the Acropolis by the Greek flag....makes it look so small in the distance whereas it is a very majestic and imposing structure viewed from down below! And, sorry you are not feeling well (hopefully, it has passed by now!), and Greek yoghurt definitely helps with stomach bugs!
