We've had a lot of rain in the midwest (wish we could share it with our west coast and mountain region friends!). This marshland at the north end of the island is a beautiful place to bike ride or hike. The water level is usually not so high -- the road today was flooded in spots and my friend and I had to 'portage' our bikes -- but it's always a beautiful spot with lots of bird life.
Thanks for your great comments on the rare yellow name-unknown beach flower. @Shepherdman gets a shoutout for the best label ever. He wrote: "I think that the Latin name for this species is called Idunno whatitis." @Olivetreeann thought it might be a 'monkey flower' and even found a website with an image -- but the leaves are different. My master gardner down the beach thinks they could be "hairy pocoon" which to me sounds like a made up name too. The mystery remains...
Beautiful! I'd love to walk there! You are too funny mentioning my "research"! I'd go with what your gardening friend said as the leaves not matching was bothersome to my sensibilities! But the fact that Monkey Flowers were endangered made me think it was a small possibility.
@francoise That was actually my favorite part (the grasses that were leaning over in the wind) as well. I was imagining that when I got home, I'd crop down to just the waving clump of grasses, but I didn't have the right angle to get the crop to work.
@ericdibosco The grass in the water, to me, is what is the most interesting -- but like I mentioned to Francoise above, I couldn't get to the right angle and it was way to wet to get closer to it. So, I went with the broader landscape. But I'm quite pleased you noticed them!
Oh, yeah, "hairy pocoon" sounds just as made up as Idunno whatitis!! But, frankly who cares.....it's just a name! This seems like such a wonderful, peaceful setting.
Idunno whatitis rules! ❤
