A night on the town on Beaver Island...
1. Dinner at Stoney Acres Restaurant & Pub: white fish wrap and beer (superb)
2. Drop off late license renewal in post office box
3. Decide to wander the cemetery to find oldest gravestone (1836) and funniest saying ("I Told You I Was Sick" on the back of one of the headstones) (and take pictures) - http://365project.org/taffy/special-photos/2015-07-07
4. Go into town to Daddy Frank's for junior cone combining mint moose tracks (mint ice cream with fudge things) and Michigan mud flats (all chocolate things)
5. Stop at Barney's Lake on way home and take photo of fisherman - http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2015-07-07
Best part: Jim's comment as we were leaving to go into town, when I asked if I should bring my camera. Response: "Of course, don't be foolish." Amazing!
I LOVE the way you laid out the pace of life on Beaver Island! Saw the funny headstone and came here first. Very shy on time for the present, but I'm enjoying your photos and the pleasures of summer away from home!
@Weezilou The pace here is such a contrast to Chicago. I thought it would be a good page to go back and read when I get back to deal with the move next week. Thanks for the visits today!
This is a super shot. Love the shallow DOF for the bench. I am really laughing at #3... my hubby jokes that, on his headstone, we are going to carve "I really need to exercise." It sounds like such a great time now, for you both. Argh, for the upcoming week.
Wonderful seat - great dof!! A lovely place to sit and think!! Enjoy the rest of your stay on the Island - it sounds such fun!! I will be thinking of you and your move - hope all goes well for you!! Off tomorrow on holiday and hoping for WiFi - I hope I can keep in touch!!
An English comedian, Spike Milligan from the "Goon Show" way back in time put this on his grave -" I told you I was ill"! Its obviously caught the eye of this poor fellow! This seat looks like it was there for the fairies to come and sit on in the moonlight!
@pamknowler Have a great holiday! Are Barb and Finlay both coming along? Enjoy your time, take lots of photos! Thanks for the good thoughts re the move. I cannot imagine it being anything but unpleasant and stressful and am trying to set the bar so low that I can't get stressed from surprises! The workers are clearly scrambling to get lots done so it should be habitable, if now really 'done.' I can't wait to see it, actually.
@taffy yes Barb and Finlay coming too. It's a dog friendly cottage 2 minutes from the beach. Views from the garden over Morecambe Bay. 20 minutes and we are in the Lake District. I hope it lived up to its recommendations! The owner says it's doggy heaven so Finlay will be ok! It will be wonderful for you and Jim to be home again!
fantastic dof- it looks like one of those 3D pictures you had to view in a special viewer. Great shot. I just succumbed to buying a tub of Mint Moose Tracks Ice Cream. Probably not a good move on my part! But I'm going to love every bite!
