I'm Baaaack!!! by taffy

I'm Baaaack!!!

This is the spider who has taken up residence on my deck, this time between the stairs and a chair (so safer than when blocking the stairs). I was glad to see it survived after being knocked away (though I do NOT like these normally -- but how can you not like this face???).
Taken with my speedlight using one of the Rogue reflectors I've had but hadn't yet figured out how to use, before converting to b&w for my mentor group challenge (see extras album - http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2015-09-15 )
@jgpittenger -- this was following your backlight idea but I couldn't make it work so I tried using the speedlight and reflector to see if I could create the same effect.

Super shot of this creepy, creepy spider! I do love his face and he has a bit of a frown on it, but still, it's a spider and I don't feel sorry for him! LOL FAV!

Great detail.... I'm not sure I like to see a spider this big and with this much detail!!! :) Fa

@ckwiseman Haha! Me either if it were THIS big! But I used a macro -- the little guy is less than an inch long, and I'm pretty sure we don't have poisonous ones here in the city. Thanks for the visit!

@cashew I thought his big eyes and the frown were sort of fun. I'm glad you noticed them! Thanks for the visit.
September 16th, 2015
He looks like a hairy monster from outer space! Super photo but glad he is on my computer and not on my skin!
September 16th, 2015
@maggiemae I so agree! I was glad he was happy inside his large web and not at all interested in getting closer to me. It's made me feel quite brave to be out there photographing him at night! Thanks for the visit, as always!

Not only he is very industrious, but he also has glowing eyes and furry legs, so I am not sure what his predicted longevity will be!! Great macro, though, and now that you have photographed him I think it is time to expel him!! ;-))

what an ugly spider...so hairy. Nice shot.
September 16th, 2015
Awesome and creepy macro!

Stunning capture, not that big though! Down Under the land of beautiful sunrises and the most deadly spiders and snakes - love the contrasts :)
September 16th, 2015
Looks like a garden spider to me too Taffy :-) Nice pic
September 16th, 2015
Super details. We have a number of spiders that can inflict a nasty bite so I treat each one as poisonous. Better safe than sorry!
September 16th, 2015
so creepy, and you allow him to live on your deck!!! Great shot but time to go!
September 16th, 2015

I think the backlighting is wonderful. Not sure re the background color though. She is so wonderfully sharp. I wish Jim hadn't cut down the overgrowth in our garden. My spider has disappeared
September 16th, 2015
Wonderful detail Taffy he looks quite appealing!
September 16th, 2015
Great details, prefer this color version over the b&w
September 16th, 2015

September 17th, 2015
Creepy but great details! Thanks to 365 I've become more tolerant of spiders, but I still don't like them! Great shot.
September 17th, 2015
Yikes!
September 17th, 2015
Oh SO NOT a fan...good photography "YES"...arachnids, "NO"! I might find his appearance less disturbing if it were reduced back to life size!
September 17th, 2015
oh my goodness! Creepy spider!
September 17th, 2015
@jgpittenger Thanks Jane. The background was actually the side of the grill. I had trouble finding an angle (since it's on the deck and there is nothing but unappealing background around). With the use of the speedlight, I think it lit the black of the grill and turned it a bit gray. When I tried darkening it, it darkened spider too much. I was surprised at the additional detail from the flash and liked that part, but couldn't figure out how to handle background lighting. Next time!
September 17th, 2015
Wow! Have never seen one close up like this! Fav!
September 17th, 2015
Love his "face"! Great find.
September 17th, 2015
So very scary! Wonderful capture!

What a great photo, Taffy. I do not like spiders either. Fun to see what they look like close up though. Guess you have a pet, well part time one.

I have a new admiration for you and your home. We are finally having our bathroom done. They will wrap up all but cleaning the tile in our shower and doing the shower pan and the replacing the shower enclosure. That is all on us but will be done in about 2 weeks totally. We will have our toilet back to use later today. How I have missed our bathroom. I cannot imagine what you went through. This is a lot and some of the smells are horrible. Grateful for our house fan and cooler temps to air out. Hope all is going well back home for you and Jim. I am sorry I have not kept up. Medically speaking I have had one thing after the next. I have the worst yeast infection that came from who knows where but resilient to everything they have tried. I have been miserable for a month. Maybe too much info but figured you would understand. Take care and glad you keep up with my spiratic posts.
