As we left town, Jim stopped at Union Station so I could go inside and photograph it. It's quite an amazing renovation. I happened on preparations for what was clearly going to be a chic wedding. At each end of the grand hall was a beautiful round, gigantic stained glass window.
Extras album has closeups of the chairs below -- you can see what the woman seated in the lower left is creating: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2015-10-03
Thanks for your kind comments on the night shot of the Capitol building -- it made it worth getting a bit wet (camera stayed protected mostly and I decided to go with higher ISO and forego a tripod in favor of the umbrella).
Super lines and arches... what a very cool building. The little figure, seated in the chairs, adds a nice sense of scale. Smiling at @Weezilou 's comment about the bills to come, for the father of the bride. :)
@rosiekerr@Weezilou I think you're right on target. That was going to be one huge, expensive affair. The person you see sitting there is hand-tying each of the bows. She was moving a chair as she did so she wouldn't sit in one of the covered wedding ones!
I'm with you, @rosiekerr and @Weezilou, that one's gonna cost big-time. Fantastic photo Taffy. The symmetry, strong leading lines and circular window make me feel like I'm being drawn inexorably down a tunnel (time-machine). Just magic. Fav.
What an incredible space.....and, a little overwhelming! I am assuming this was the original Union Station that got decommissioned, and is now being used for other purposes. Once we were at a tile factory tour in Nashville, and we stayed at a Union Station that had been converted to a hotel....our room was at the upper level overlooking that assembly space! Love creative building renovations!
Wow, I can always tell which is yours from the small photos on the trending page Taffy. Another superb shot. Your pics are so inspiring. Love this. Fav of course
@panthora I'd all but forgotten about it, but it's the same in St Louis! I'm so glad these lovely spaces haven't been dismantled, but can now be shared with travelers in a different way!
I run out of time so quickly and "The List" keeps getting longer, so I'll use this space to tell you I asked Tina where she'd lived with her family. They went to Istanbul every summer and had holidays on Buyukaba (The Big Island) Her dad is Greek (Isperduli) and her mom, Armenian (Koomijiam) I hope all that makes sense to you! In effect, we seem to have what is your heritage as a part of our family, too!
@shepherdmanswife I love your wording beyond the fact that I too, see Taffy's photos as always recognizable! The fact that you called them "inspiring" is exactly correct! Not sure if and when I'll attain this level, but it's something to aspire to!
@janiskay I suspect this must be an Indianapolis society wedding, given how elegant it was -- but it's clearly a ballroom that is now used for these kinds of events.
@panthora This train station is attached to the Crown Plaza -- I think it may now be a part of that hotel. And one area of the hotel has train cars that have been converted to hotel rooms -- a long line of them on a track that was very cool.
What a spectacular place for a wedding! Very up market and expensive too I expect! Wonderful image drawing you all the way in. I hope when I am standing beside you some of your wonderful eye for an image will rub off on me! Lol! Fav!
Sorry I missed this earlier, haven't been able to be on here much lately. Congrats on TT. Fabulous shot ... I knew it was yours without seeing the name. fav
