In the Cemetery by taffy

In the Cemetery

While in Hilo, Junko and I decided to photograph in a cemetery we had passed by several times on our way to the volcano. It had a gigantic monkey tree which was our reason for photographing there, but in the end, I found the various sections (Japanese, Korean, Christian, Mormon) to be where the interesting images could be found. I don't know the significance of this particular headstone, but found the sphere to be surreal compared especially compared to the others. Next will be to explore how it looks in b&w.
Its nice to see that granite is used here so much! It will last centuries!

I like your pov, it is very powerful. And you're right, the sphere is interesting because it is so different. Great shot, looking forward to the b&W.

Love all those different shapes and lines and the sphere is fascinating!! I always want to know the story behind the headstones!! Going to Devon at the end of October and we are going to see if we can find some old family headstones. Should be an interesting search!! Fav!!

Very interesting and unusual headstone
October 2nd, 2016
I like this
October 2nd, 2016
how unusual, great find
October 2nd, 2016
It must have some sort of significance- something like the circle of life perhaps? Who knows- but it does stand out amongst the others. I think it will look even better in black and white.

Interesting shapes and lines.

I think each cemetery like towns has its own feel. Great shot.
October 2nd, 2016
Nicely composed, and I look forward to seeing how this will look in b&w. I want to shoot in Graceland Cemetery sometime this month before the trees have lost all their leaves, are you interested?

Great shot Taffy. Never seen a gravestone like that. Wonder what it signifies.

Should look great in B&W.. some very interesting headstones..

This would be excellent in b/w. Nice comp. I did a little Googling. The circle of life seems to be the most common explanation.

I like both versions, but I love how the green grass pops in and out in this one!
October 3rd, 2016
What an unusual headstone, we'll found and captured
October 3rd, 2016
I like both shots, but am slightly preferring the b&w because it brings out the sphere more. An amazing headstone.

I love how your angle is both artistic, and yet clearly indicative of the cultural elements of a Hawaiian cemetery.
