While Jane I had had a bit of a challenge finding lone trees to photograph in the Palouse, lone windmills were more plentiful. Thank you for your comments on my b&w versus color versions of the row of trees. I found the comments to be enlightening, especially about how the clouds looked like waves in the b&w, and about using the color to make sense of the b&w. Interesting, the b&w appears to be the slight favorite.
PS -- a few have asked what the Palouse is...it's an area of eastern Washington State, near the Idaho border that has large rolling hills. Because it is agricultural, the colors are striking on the hillsides as the wheat, canola, peas, etc begin to grow. Summer and Fall are the key seasons. We were there a bit too early for the height of color.
Another wonderful shot! I had to google Palouse, which seems to be a photographers paradise. So far they have been magnificent and I look forward to the hundreds still to come from the two of you ;-)
I googled Palouse as soon as you started sharing your photos, as I thought it was such a neat name and wanted to find out where it was exactly. Wonderful contrast with the horizontal layers and the upright windmill.
Off you go back again in a bit when the crops are growing please! I was interested to learn all about this area, I thought at first it sounded like a French horse! Your windmill stands tall & majestic, love the simple colour here too.
What a wonderful b&w image! Love it! Thanks for the information on the Palouse it certainly looks like a photographers paradise whatever time of year you visit! Fav of course!
