A Death Valley re-visit. This time around I saw the contrast from a larger scene. I enjoy the month's focus on B&W as I know it leads me to alternative ways of looking at my photographs. I vaguely remember a the time thinking I had the 'wrong' lens with me, and not understanding how to use a long telephoto to create a tight scene.
Your capture of the scene gives such context to the sand dunes and your processing emphasizes the smooth sand of the dunes and highly textured mountains behind.
It's beautiful! It did take me a moment to work out what I was looking at though. I think it has to be viewed large, and preferably on black to see all that magnificent detail properly. Lovely.
I agree with all of the other comments - intriguing, confusing, alluring, smooth, sharp, warm, cool, light, dark - otherworldly. What IS that fringe on the dune (?)?
Not only do you have the strong contrasts of black and white here, you also have that amazingly smooth dune in the foreground and the textured ones behind. This shot was made for black and white!
