The spoonbill is such a striking bird, both because of its spoon-shaped beak and its bright color. The Alligator Farm Zoo has a large population that I am told has a symbiotic relationship with the alligators and crocodiles. These fellows eat the rodents that would otherwise be climbing trees and harming the birds. Thus, birds of a variety of species return to this rodent free (relatively, I assume) zone and enjoy a stress free existence. Whether it's true or not, I don't know, but I like the idea when I heard it.
@ljmanning I think it's the type of bird within the species as it's called the Roseate Spoonbill, and they are evidently fairly common in Florida during this time -- not sure of other times of year.
