Not a Carousal Mailbox by taffy

Not a Carousal Mailbox

I posted a mailbox to capture the unique ones I have found when I am on Beaver Island a few weeks ago - http://365project.org/taffy/365/2014-09-01. Kathie asked me what my mailbox looked like...on the island, we just have a PO box, but here's our mailbox in Chicago. Not nearly as interesting. But it's the place I stop every day, before going in the house, ever hopeful that there might be something worthwhile in the mail but there rarely is.
@kathiecb -- I remembered you asking me about my mailbox, so ended up taking the photo today and experimenting with trying to create an interesting image of it. Much harder to do with this one, than the one on the island.

I think you've succeeded in finding he best light and composition. Interesting glimpse into the mail inside too.

So, this tells me that there are three units in your building, and that you need to empty the mailbox on a daily basis, or there won't be any room for more mail, junk or otherwise....:-))

@panthora Heehee...observant! But there are only two units, actually. Apparently, they don't make 2 unit mailboxes -- or our builder was using leftovers when he built our building and then left the country! We suspect the latter. So, we've discovered that if our mailbox gets full, our mail person puts mail in the third one to 'park' it, til we get home and get it cleaned up. So I guess it serves some purpose!

I agree about mailboxes - every day there is a vague possibility there might be something interesting in the mail but internet has taken over mail in today's world. No letters, only bills!

This is one of those everyday objects that as an owner you take for granted, but for in a different part of the world is an interesting insight into your world. A well taken record shot.

I had to get a PO box when my husband had dementia because he didn't always give me the mail. LOL Now my mail lands in a basket. I have a sweet pic of Two in that basket. But mail boxes are today more often more interesting then the mail.

Mail boxes are virtually unknown here, although Siobhan got one as the dogs were chewing up her mail!

Wonderful picture and perspective.

Great b&w

Fantastic. I love the simplicity

Lovely B&W image. I find mail boxes so interesting as you can get do many different kinds. I don't have a mailbox just a letter box in the front door of my house. I did have to put up a baby gate half way down the hall to stop Finlay getting the mail and tearing it to shreds! He goes mad when anything is put through the letter box and keeps running to you barking until you go and get it. Then you have to be quick! Naughty Finlay!

@taffy Haha. No offense but locked boxes are boring. Soon all of Canada will be delivered this way. Maybe you can install one at the front of your home on Beaver Island even tho it won't be used. Oops, just gave you another project. :)

@kathiecb Horrible thought to think of these on the island!! They are among the most boring things I've come across in architectural detail.

It may be boring to you, but you made it a very interesting picture. All our mail seems to be requests for money. I always ask Richard if any of the requestors are entitled to any.

I'm really drawn the composition on this shot. I like the offset of the mailbox and wrought iron is always a fave of mine. The light and shadow add a great deal as well. Yep. I like it!

great composition and b&w processing

That is a unique mailbox set up.

@taffy OMG. I just reread what I said. I didn't mean one of these (Yikes) I meant a creative freestanding rural box.

@kathiecb Ah -- that does make more sense!! The ones on the island would be fun to have here in the city, actually, but like others have said, I suspect vandals would get to them too quickly to make it worth it. Mmmm...one on the island would be a conversation piece as I can hear people say, "How did you get them to delivery mail to you?"!! It took us 5 years to get our address number put in a visible spot as required -- I can imagine how long it will take us to create a mailbox of interest! :-)

@taffy I'll check back in 6 years. LOL
September 15th, 2014
@kathiecb Oh no...pressure! :-)
