My get pushed challenge this week is street photography and I'm sort of excited about this shot. It's taken on the subway platform where the musician was singing. It was rush hour, so there was never a moment without people moving by and then the train arrived. I waited to get a shot of him as the train pulled out of the station and the woman in the foreground just happened by as I snapped. I like that he is clear and everything else is a blur. Thank you, Melissa (@melissapike), for this challenge!

Luretta, Meloday, Sarah, and Lisa -- Thank you so much for responding so quickly and so positively. I actually waited a few hours to load it onto my computer as I was so nervous that it wouldn't be as good as I hoped from previewing it on the camera. It was such a relief to see he was in focus! Thank you, thank you! for your comments.
FAV! The focus is great! Another reason I miss Chicago....street musicians. I realize that this is a common occurrence, and yet it baffles me that people can just walk past scenes like this as if it's not happening.
@melissapike -- Here is my official posting for this week's challenge. I suspect I can't do any better than this one! Thanks for the push to do this -- people are not my strong suit for photos.
@mej2011 Thank you so much for the fav! It is surprising that so many fine musicians are playing on the streets, in the subway and how life just seems to go on around them. He had a lot of 'life' to him and was a joy to listen to, so I'm glad he's preserved in the photo.
@pflaume This was handheld. It was on a crowded subway station so a tripod wouldn't be practical -- but there was enough light. Aperture was at 3.2 and shutter speed 1/25, so the handheld worked out okay for the most part. I had taken about 6 photos and 2 of the six were clear enough of him to use.
@taffy Thanks so much for the reply, Taffy. I was looking at your exif info to better understand how to take such a shot. I don't have a good sense of shutter speeds and when a tripod would be necessary. You obviously nailed it - your focus is perfect!
@pflaume I'm not that strong in it -- I've been trying to do the 'golden triangle' challenge this week and that has helped (even though I have nothing to show for it to post!). You just learn how slow the shutter can be before you can't hold it anymore (depends on the heaviness of the lens too). I'm not that steady under 1/25 I've learned.
@automaticslim She was -- just appeared out of nowhere! @sugarmuser@amandal Thanks for the fav! Amanda, thanks for such kind words -- exciting to know I almost made it to the finals! But mostly, that you thought it was that good a shot!
