Bird in Motion by taffy

Bird in Motion

For the last day of the ONS4 challenge, I took several photos of things that move: the "L" subway train, a large closeup of a truck, cars on the highway, people on escalators, a crowd loading their luggage into the Megabus and climbing aboard. It was a great experience to practice taking motion shots. This was my favorite -- I liked the feeling of everything being in motion, of creating an abstract (by accident, as I was hoping the bird would have been a little more clear and defined). The other thing that makes it special to me is it is SOOC with only cropping. The bird is actually a seagull flying over the Chicago River with a skyscraper in the background.
It's lovely! The bird looks amazing and the background colour is so pretty!

you certainly get a strong sense of motion, as you write. Was there some panning involved with this shot? I really like the horizontal lines going across the shot. Fun!

Very cool shot! I love the effect of motion. I'm curious about the panning technique too.

Love the composition and the contrast of light and dark colors. Great movement too

I like that! The cool blue-green of the building with the lines indicating the bird's path are great.

Love it. It's like you have captured a slip stream trailing from the seagulls wings :)

Panning for a more defined bird may have made a cool shot too but I really like how you did capture this - everthing appears to have the same degree of motion. I really like it.

@kwind @danitech @kazlamont @noragentian Thanks so much for your comments!
@kimshots @pflaume @vankrey I did try to pan -- (@jyokota) and I had taken a class on night photography where they taught us how to follow the focal object and then snap as you are moving the camera with the moving object. That's what I was trying to do but the bird was really fast and I couldn't capture it. In my plan, the bird would have been sharply in focus with the building and sign blurred like it is in this one.
@chiquiramos @sjouk @orangecrush Thank you so much for the fav!!

Very cool motion shot -- doesn't bother me a bit that the bird is part of the blur!
