My get-pushed challenger this week ( @missmercy) pushed me to take some portraits, low-key if possible. I enjoy doing portraits but only of people I know well. I decided to push myself to create a portrait (or two if I'm able) like I've seen others (especially @ruthmouch) do, where I also have at least a brief conversation with them. This is Rudy. He's one of two men who work as valet's for Tufano's restaurant, around the corner from our house and on the way to where we have walked our dog for the past 12 years. He's been with Tufano's for about 20 years and I've passed him at least 2 times a day between walking Nutmeg or walking back and forth to work. He always says 'hi' and when I'm not with Nutmeg, asks how she's doing. He always has that little grin on his face. It feels good to know his name and at least a little about him at long last! BTW, Tufano's patio area looks out on the fountain in my post April 11th ( http://365project.org/taffy/365/2013-04-11).
This is a great shot Taffy! That is so brave of you to give yourself that extra challenge but it definitely worked! Reminds me of the 100 strangers project on flickr, which I'm not brave enough to take on - well done :-)
@ness50@tuesdaygirl@missmercy@barbsmith Thanks Vanessa, Jess, Miss Mercy, and Barb -- it's interesting to see how common that comfort zone issue is around portraits. It makes me feel more relaxed about it. Jess -- I could NEVER do the 100 strangers. I'd be a nervous wreck throughout, but I never thought I'd even ask one person to pose!
