Created for the WWYD89 theme challenge, for which Ann H. LeFevre @olivetreeann ) posted the photo that appears in this link: http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/18848/wwyd89
This is my first time entering an editing challenge. One thought I had when I saw her image is that it called for recasting through the use of color and light. In this version, I tried to create depth, then set the whole thing 'on fire.' I softened it a bit using a graduated fog filter. All done through a combination of Aperture and Color Efex.

Thanks Timothy, Jo, Quentin, Janine, and Hope! I appreciated the positive comments -- very reinforcing for my first attempt at WWYD.

Thanks Susale, Michael, Marloes, Dione, Kazzy, Jan, and Pam. It was interesting to work with someone else's image and have no preconceived idea of what Ann was going for. I found it freeing for editing and ended up with three different versions -- each creating a totally different feeling. I'm glad to have discovered WWYD and to be limited to not being able to photoshop so can't add anything to it, only work with what is already there. Fun challenge!
Great job Taffy! I like the fiery feeling to it! It also reminds me of the batik way of dyeing silk that was so popular when I was in high school. That may date me!! I'm glad you enjoyed working with the shot. I can't tell you how much I stressed out over picking this picture!! I really wanted something that people could do all kinds of things with. In the end, I'm glad I relied on Jeff's opinion because I am amazed at the wide range of images that are coming in. It is going to be very hard to choose 5 for everyone to vote on. Guess who might be helping me out with that!!
PS, after looking at this again - I have been in a real bush fire and this really does give that horror impress of impending disaster and the need to leave. The snow reminds me of ash and there is a lot of ash in a bushfire.
@joluise Thanks for stopping again to describe your response. That's exactly what I was going for -- that sense of fire in the distance that can't be stopped and the idea of cinders that are coming in from the sides.
Thanks Timothy, Jo, Quentin, Janine, and Hope! I appreciated the positive comments -- very reinforcing for my first attempt at WWYD.
