This is the sequel to Sunflower Courtship from a few days ago, http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-08-15 and my last posting for August's book club section 2. This exercise was about identifying something in advance and using photography to represent that thought/feeling. I had picked up the eye props a few months ago and it occurred to me that on the sunflower, I could create an expressive "face." I was thinking about "Life's Too Short" or something like that when Jim looked at my photo, mentioned the relationship to my photo from Thursday night, and that's when the title occurred to me. BUT, I had to retake the shot to convey what the sunflower would be yearning about so I positioned the other one with its back to the "yearner." If you haven't seen the original Sunflower Courtship and have time to check it out, this will all make more sense.
First, I like that you bought eyes as props (I'd have never thought of that) and second I like how you positioned the other sunflower. It does portray yearning so nicely! Fun!
@jyokota Heehee...I went to MIchael's before I left looking for something -- a mirror, I think. And since I never go there, it was eye-opening to see all the things that could be props! So I bought a few things that would fit in a small bag to bring up and have used the eyes and the mirror.
@kazlamont He did get the girl! I moved them around today and all was well until his eye fell out. Now he (or she) seems to be looking askance at his companions!
@jyokota Jim already just shakes his head when I pull things out -- I've been looking at the Toy Museum here in a whole new light! We're taking the grandkids there tomorrow -- hoping for some new photo toys as a result.
@taffy I love you photos and although I might be a little slack at commenting I am always looking at them. I have enjoyed your photos from the island very much. I am looking forward to your city photos though even if you might not want to leave your paradise.
@thirtysevenways That's so kind of you to say! I'm wrapping my mind around urban photos again -- that was my focus from January through May, of course. But I'm also stressing out as I haven't been teaching because of other projects last semester and didn't teach this summer, so am not sure how I can keep up with 365 with a full load of teaching, plus the other obligations at work that I have. Eek!! I think that is one of the reasons I'm so stressed about going back -- I'll really miss being able to participate as much as I have -- especially over the summer.
@taffy completely understand. I made a decision to cut down my time on the site which meant a reduction is commenting and in return a reduction in people looking at my photos. This was difficult at first but I reminded myself why I was actually doing the project in the first place and I have come to terms with it although I would like to show my appreciation a little more often. Good luck with your return to teaching. I'm sure you will find that balance.
@thirtysevenways Good advice! We'll see what happens over the next few weeks...I appreciate your taking the time to share your experience of cutting back. I'm really dreading it as I've come to really like reading people's comments and commenting back. But it's such a luxury when still working...

Thanks Colie, Gena, and Michael. It was a fun shot to set up. Sadly, his/her eyes fell off sometime last night so it's back to just three flowers in their vase. They look happy, but they aren't looking at us any longer.
