Study of a Lily No. 2 by taffy

Study of a Lily No. 2

This is the second in my series of the lily flowers that we picked up earlier this week. Yesterday's focus was the curved petal. Today I decided to focus on the stamen. Processed by stacking three photos using Nik Color Efex HDR, then adjusted clarity using Aperture to tweak it a bit more. Thank you so much for your comments on the petal version yesterday as it ended up on trending for awhile.

Gorgeous macro Taffy, love the detail in the stamens. I don't think I have ever thought about stacking images on a flower, were they different exposures?

You have picked out the stamens so well with the processing, I like the free stalks.

Love how it pops against the black background. Wonderful details. I really must learn about stacking.

@elaine55 Thanks Elaine -- I just thought, why not stack for more detail -- and it really does work. These were all at 50 ISO, f/13, and one each at 3sec, 6sec, and 10 sec in low light.

Lovely shot. Gives it additional depth.

It is a very tactile shot - I want to reach out and touch those stamens the look so beautifully textured

This approach nearly changes the image from a flower photo to an abstract study. I like the poster-like graphic feeling of this one.

When you stack them are you changing the focus points as well, it is so crisp.
March 21st, 2014
@briggsy Hi David, the focus stays the same across the three, only the aperture or shutter speed changes. In this case, the aperture was stable at f/22, but the shutter speed varied from 15 to 30 seconds.

@taffy Thank you interesting technique I have never explored this, thank you for explaining it. I will place an my bucket list. I have been looking at trying to combine multiple focus point shots as I often struggle with the right level of DOF on my macro work. You have given me some more to think about thanks
March 21st, 2014
Superb focus stacking. I must try this way, I usually collect multiple shots by micro movements of the focus.
March 24th, 2014
Wow, stunning focus and colors. This has a lovely surreal quality to it. Fav.
