They bit the dust. I suspect a decade of freezing winters and warm summers on Beaver Island did them in. The sole of one literally flapped off while we were hiking and the heel of the left shoe flopped off while I was taping up the right shoe! Sad to see these comfy shoes end their run.

LOL! Jim and my oldest son and daughter in law hiked a 20 mile trip in the Grand Canyon a few years ago and my daughter in laws boots suffered a similar fate! Glad you were closer to home
This made me laugh as yesterday I had to use super glue on my comfy trainers. The sole was flapping and it's a wonder I didn't trip over!! I hate having to get new ones to wear in!!
With that tape the shoes are good for at least another year!
By the way, when I was younger I did a lot of water skiing and in N. CA you have to wear a wet suit since the water is very cold. We carried the same silver duct tape (we called it 100 mph tape) to quickly repair torn wet suits if they blew apart from a skiing fall. Great stuff!
Very creative repair job. I am sure they will be able to be glued back together once you get home. That is what David would do with his favourite shoes. He is an engineer and nothing gets thrown out.
Hilarious stuff Taffy, I've seen duct tape used for all sorts of things, but this one tops them all I think. Mind you, I fully understand wanting to prolong the life of comfy footwear.
So sad when a comfy pair of shoes finally wears out. You've done a lot of walking to destroy a pair of hiking boots! Duct tape is a marvellous invention.
