Here in Taiwan the tap water is not drinkable. Well let me say for decades it wasn't drinkable and while now the government says it is drinkable, i have not met one human being here who dares to drink it straight out of the tap.
There is a fun debate over the best way to clean the water. Is it boiling, an in line water filter, and external water filter, a water heater/cooler with filtering system. this is one fight that will never be settled.
One almost insane fixture of the university's campus is this outdoor water filtering, heating and cooling machine. I say it's insane because since it's outside and under no supervision, anybody and everybody in the university and local town uses this. And i don't mean just go get a glass of water, I mean people lined up with huge water jugs waiting to fill them up.
While this must be a high cost for the university, I really admire them for doing this. Taking a loss in order to do a good thing is rare anywhere in the world, and especially taiwan. I can't help but fantasize about a world where students who graduate and become in control of companies remember this simple gesture from their school days and decide that their company will also do some gentle act.
