Chinese New Year Market by taiwandaily

Chinese New Year Market

This seems fitting as it's the first day of the lunar new year. Welcome to the year of the dragon. I'm guessing I should take down my year of the rabbit posters I have on my front door. Although I'm sure it's bad luck to have last year's animal on your door, so I should leave it up for strangers to know that there is a crazy and/or lazy man living here.

Anyway, much like christmas and other big holidays, chinese new year has it's own special food that people eat. This causes a lot of festive markets to pop up for a few days selling said snacks and other new year items.

My favorite special chinese new year snack? It would have to be pistachios. Yep here they are so associated with the holiday that it's hard for people to grasp that not only do people all over the world eat them, but we also eat them year round. Although I haven't been able to figure out if their shock to hear this is because they secretly don't like pistachios but are forced to eat them for the holiday. Perhaps their reaction is just the same you'd have if somebody told you that all over the world they drank eggnog year round.
