Earl And His Friends

I spent way too much time coming up with that absurd title that nobody is going to get. Anyway, with the recent trip to the secret farm, it reminded me that i also had some pictures of some goats out in the "wild." These goats live in a pen that is on the side of a mountain that is near my house. i have absolutely no idea why somebody is raising goats. perhaps for some special chinese medicine? I don't know if I would be exaggerating if I said that every part of every animal that we normally don't eat, is considered in chinese culture to make men more...energetic. No doubt a clever way to make sure that all parts of animals are eaten.

This picture is taken from a wonderful hiking trail near my house. It is a crescent shaped trail that starts to the left of my house and ends up on the right of my house. while the actual trail itself goes all along the southern area of the city, and is quite long. to do it all is about a half day's hike.

Along the trail are some pretty interesting things. There are some pretty old yet inhabited houses that can only be hiked to, no driving. and the people who live there are very very old. their strength is just amazing, they can hike up and down without breaking a sweat.

There is a huge cemetery. in Taiwan some of the best real estate on the side of mountains is given to cemeteries. This is so they can have a nice view, and because of "feng shui" (i wrote that word in chinese in a post a few weeks ago, do you remember it?) There are a large number of temples as well. including one abandoned one that is just begging to be explored. There is also a pretty interesting cave. And on some parts are some really nice houses that can be driven to, and seem like a great place to live.

Along the way there are several rest areas, and many clear and amazing views. But the most curious thing i've seen are some small playgrounds and outdoor exercise equipment, funded by the government. Yes it's a great place to play or work out, but who is that person who after four hours of hiking to get there, wants to do some exercise? Whoever they are, I want to tell them how much I hate them for being so unbelievably in shape. I have yet to see any mere mortals using this equipment. most of us are busy wiping the rainfall of sweat from our brows, while cursing our choice in the never ending battle pf should we bring more water, but that's more to carry, or should we bring less water, but risk being thirsty. no matter what we choose, we are wishing we chose the opposite after a few hours of hiking.
