The Dog Conference

For months I have been wanting to take a picture of this location, and finally when i get a good one, it's empty. This is an area in a local park that is normally packed with dogs. Owners love to come here and bring their dogs to play with each other. Usually on weekends there can be upwards of 50 or more dogs running around just this one area.

But as you can see nobody is there now, even though it is a Sunday afternoon. This is because of something Taiwanese hate....weather. In today's case, the sun. In Taiwan getting a tan is considered criminal. People walk around in the summer with umbrellas so the sun doesn't touch them. They spend thousands of dollars on creams and surgery to make their skin whiter.

So during the summer months people don't bring their dogs here during the day time, they wait until cooler months when they can wear jackets and long pants to cover their whole body.

Another time that this area is busy, is around 9pm at night. people and their dogs will come to socialize when the temperature is cooler. However again they hate weather, so for the two months it's below 70 degrees in Taiwan, they don't come for this nightly meeting. Nor do they come when it's raining.

Which is all fine for them, but it makes me pretty upset for their dogs. Sun, heat, rain, cool, I'm here everyday no matter what, because it's good for my dog. Then again Taiwanese in general don't walk their dogs, they make them pee and poop inside (which can cause dogs emotional and mental stress) and will only take their dogs out once a week. So if the weather stops them, than their dogs are maybe going months without going outside.
